Long time no blog! After taking a few months hiatus, I’ve returned to the world of blogging. And as this is primarily a book blog, here’s my May 2019 update. Plus, scroll down to the end for a giveaway opportunity!
As usual, here are the questions.
1: What have you just finished reading.
2: What are you currently reading.
3: What will you read next.
1: What have you just finished reading?
Mad Girl by Bryony Gordon
For people who are suffering with mental health issues, I thoroughly recommend this very honest account of an acclaimed journalist living with debilitating OCD and depression. So good!
2: What are you currently reading?
Body Positive Power by Megan Jayne Crabbe
On the mental health kick, check out this wonderful body positivity manifesto from @bodyposipanda. This is my second time reading it, and I love the mixture of facts and storytelling from Megan.
3: What will you read next?
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
I am so woefully behind reading this tome from Samantha Shannon, it’s not even funny. But this is 100% on my to-read pile.
This month, I’m partnering with Titan Books for a blog tour celebrating Snakeskins; a brand new release from author Tim Majors. And I’ve been lucky enough to offer a giveaway to one lucky reader to win a copy of the book.
Here’s the summary of the book:
Caitlin Hext’s first shedding ceremony is imminent, but she’s far from prepared to produce a Snakeskin clone. When her Skin fails to turn to dust as expected, she must decide whether she wishes the newcomer alive or dead.
Worse still, it transpires that the Hext family may be of central importance to the survival of Charmers, a group of people with the inexplicable power to produce duplicates every seven years and, in the process, rejuvenate. In parallel with reporter Gerry Chafik and government aide Russell Handler, Caitlin must prevent the Great British Prosperity Party from establishing a corrupt new world order.
Snakeskins is an SF thriller examining the repercussions of rejuvenation and cloning on individuals’ sense of identity and on wider society, with the tone of classic John Wyndham stories and the multi-strand storytelling style of modern TV series such as Channel 4’s Humans.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be writing a full review soon. But if you want to be chance of winning, head over to my Instagram and comment with your username below the Snakeskins blog photo.
Things to note:
The winner will win one copy of the newly released novel Snakeskins by Tim Majors. No alternative is offered & no runner up prize is supplied.
This giveaway will run for 2 weeks, starting from the 7th May and ending midnight on the 21st. A winner will be picked from a random username generator, and will be contacted by Titan Books to organise the correct postal address. The giveaway will officially start when the blog photo picture is posted on my a_commuters_bookshelf instagram.
The giveaway will be shared on my @a_commuters_bookshelf Instagram, and my own personal @AliceRDempsey, but the prize will be selected ONLY from a_commuters_bookshelf. Any comments/entrants posted on AliceRDempsey will be void.
